Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football and community service. He is the youngest child from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They took care of him at the farm they owned in Eufala. The Selmons were also among the three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. The three brothers all made All-America. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was one of the top linemen in all of the nation. For three seasons as an offensive lineman, Oklahoma finished 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him as a Scholar-Athlete three times time in the year 1975. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy's fourth time of service was ten-hours per week in volunteer work during college. After graduation, he moved into Tampa and played nine seasons with the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. After that, he began his career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Manager for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being one of the top 10 youths of the United States. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as an athlete, was captain of his team for the year 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of Athletics at University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
